    Happy Birthday, Wesley!

Its hard to believe that a year ago today, I was preparing to head to the hospital to have Wesley.  It was a planned c-section so the whole family was there. Grandmas, Grandpas, Uncles and Aunts. Richard, Isaiah, and I all headed to the hospital explaining to Isaiah just what was about to happen... that next time we all boarded the car together, we would be four... We were nervous, excited, scared...

Wesley was born with a huge bang.  I'll never forget that loud cry! It echoed through the operating room.  I remember wondering what a brand new baby had to be so mad about.  The doctors and nurses laughed and laughed.  I couldn't wait to see him.  When they brought him over, I nestled him in my arms and smothered his tiny face with kisses.  His eyes stayed closed, lips in a thin line of indigence.  That's how he got the nickname "Business Mouse".  Since then, he has been everything but business. Wesley's Grandpa has actually nicknamed him "Smiley" because all he does is smile.  I have never met a happier, easier baby.  Wesley is content to just sit in my lap and look at his surroundings.  Even his daycare providers talk about how wonderful he is to care.  All he wants to do is kiss you and smile... who could complain about that?
As a one year old, Wesley is inquisitive, smart, funny and strong!  Wesley was the first baby in his class to start walking, he loves to take things apart and put them together - especially his bottles.  He can wave bye-bye and blow kisses.  He says "Mama" and "Up".  He adores getting attention and he will yell "Ehh!" until someone looks at him and then flash them a big smile.  He doesn't let just anyone hold him -- which is good... I love that he is friendly but I would worry if he went to everyone.  His favorite thing to do is follow Isaiah around.  He walks after him, hugs him, tries to kiss him and loves snatching crayons from him and running.  Isaiah doesn't like that part too much.  Wesley is also a little daredevil.  He has already learned to crawl up the stairs.  He loves to fling himself backwards and hang upside down when you are holding him - it makes me nervous but he laughs so hard I usually just end up laughing with him.   Wessie loves to snuggle and rock back and forth.  He tilts his head up and grabs our faces for kisses.  He is very affectionate.  Wesley has a beautiful nursery but usually finds his way to our bed by the middle of the night.  He loves sleeping nestled between Richard and I and he wakes up smiling at us after his little morning stretch.  We are working on getting him back in his crib... probably not as hard as we should.

This has been a fantastic first year.  From the moment I found out I was pregnant with an angel, only two weeks after my brother passed, until today, he has filled all of our lives with love, hope and peace.  I couldn't have asked for a better gift from God and I look forward to each minute, hour and day I spend with my baby boy.  Here is a look back...
